To continue the momentum created by Bike Charlottesville’s Bike Summit, Bike Ballot, and recent press conference, and the Citizen’s Bike Safety Committee established by the City this year, the City of Charlottesville, in partnership with Bike Charlottesville, will hold a special presentation and community discussion on Wednesday, October 20th beginning at 7pm at CitySpace in the Market Street Parking Garage downtown.Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris has invited members of the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition to come to Charlottesville and share with our community what they learned on an exploratory trip to Davis, CA, a platinum rated “Bicycle Friendly Community.” ”As we are often a model for other communities on environmental and quality of life comparisons, we can learn from other cities across the state and the country who are successfully meeting the challenges of improving bike and pedestrian safety in their communities,” said Mayor Dave Norris.Community leaders, bicycle safety advocates, and city staff will be present to discuss topics and suggestions that are raised. Community members interested in finding effective solutions to the challenges that motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists face when sharing the roads are encouraged to attend and participate in the Question and Answer segment.
